MINI COOPER BUYING GUIDE
The Cooper trim amount is MINI’s hottest, available across its scope. Here’s all you want to know to assist you select your own.
The MINI Cooper is a name steeped in history, associated with Monte Carlo Rally successes and generations of operation spin-offs.
Today, the title can be found round the MINI range, and it means as far as ever concerning performance and driver enjoyment.
Here is our buyers guide to all the MINI Cooper versions.
MINI Cooper 3-door
The first and still the most fun, the 3-dr Cooper recalls the classic Cooper versions of older, with compact, cheeky styling and go kart-like handling.
If practicality is not the most important element for you, there is no additional little car that’s quite as much fun. The entry-level Cooper has a three-cylinder 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, although the S includes a 2.0-litre four-pot. The S is stronger (189bhp vs 134bhp) however, the normal Cooper is still a complete pleasure to drive, using a characterful engine note.
The diesel is not as fast, but is extremely frugal, offering around 75mpg.
There is also the range-topping John Cooper Works edition, including monitor features and distinctive performance styling add-ons. It is a fabulous machine and it truly looks the part.
MINI Cooper 5-door
The Cooper 5-door hatch uses a lengthened version of this 3-dr platform, using an extra pair of doors and quite a decent amount of rear legroom.
The boot is 30 percent bigger than that of the three-door, while the trim levels are otherwise the same. It is a more practical alternative to the traditional 3-door model, but still keeps a lot of its understated charm and character.
MINI Cooper Countryman
With its elevated ride height, four-wheel-drive and chunky styling, the Cooper Countryman is your car that you will need for the most intense of MINI adventures.
Yet despite its own crossover credentials, the Countryman retains a level of driving enjoyment that few other small SUVs may muster, due to MINI’s excellent chassis technologies. It’s still a complete delight to drive, using a choice of 3 versions — the normal Cooper and the stronger Cooper S, which use the very same engines as the Mini hatch. Or for the full effect, there’s a John Cooper Works variant, which includes added styling features and unique alloys.
MINI Cooper Convertible
The ragtop MINI is a fun-filled alternative to the 3-door, which functions best in three-cylinder form, as with the roof down you get to really enjoy its characterful engine notice.
It’s also available as a Cooper S with the stronger 2.0-litre engine, or as a John Cooper Works special, with additional performance and styling attributes.
MINI Cooper Clubman
The Clubman is the perfect MINI if you require a bit more extra room, above and outside the five-door hatch but using a more car-like appearance compared to crossover Countryman.
It has a generous load bay, and also is available in three trim levels — the 134bhp three-cylinder Cooper, the 150bhp diesel Cooper D and also the 189bhp John Cooper Works.
