Mackenzie Schneider, hostess and room service attendant at Saybrook Point Inn & Spa, has been awarded a $2,500 scholarship by the Resort Hotel Association (RHA), a not-for-profit association that provides insurance products and services for the resort industry. The Old Saybrook High School graduate, who has been working at Saybrook Point for more than a year, is an Honor Roll student, and has been involved in the school newspaper and yearbook. She recently received a High Honor and Spanish award, and plans to attend Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts in the fall, where she will be pursing a degree in Marketing.

"We are excited for Mackenzie and her family," said Stephen Tagliatela, Managing Partner of the Saybrook Point Inn & Spa. "It's very much deserved. Mackenzie came to us with a willingness to learn what is involved in running a hotel and restaurant, and has performed quite well. She is very outgoing, communicates well with guests and fellow employees, takes an interest in paying attention to detail, and tries to make every guest's stay with us a meaningful experience. Congratulations Mackenzie!"

In celebration of 25 years of service, RHA launched the Scholarship Program in 2012 as a way to endorse the next generation of hoteliers and give back to the industry that supports the association. Each year, RHA awards two $2,500 scholarships to assist future hospitality leaders at RHA member properties. RHA, which was formed in 1987 by a group of resort owners, works with brokers and insurance companies to develop and administer property and casualty programs for members. It also provides an array of member services, including claims management, loss control, and promotions.

"We're honored to be able to give back to the community we serve and help the next generation of leaders," said Greg Riehle, President and Chief Executive Officer, Resort Hotel Association.

"Mackenzie has demonstrated a profound influence around her property by assisting guests in all facets of their stay at Saybrook Point. We're thrilled to help her begin her next journey."

At Saybook Point, Mackenzie takes great pride in her duties as a hostess and room service attendant. She continuously strives for perfection, and is always looking for opportunities to make sure the guest's experience more enjoyable and memorable. In addition, she is always ready to take on any challenge and completes multiple assignments on time and on budget.

"The goal of any hospitality professional is to make the guest happy," said Mackenzie. "I have always been a great people pleaser. With a career in hospitality, I will continue to be myself and help people."
