Derived from the Corolla Verso from 1997, the Verso as we know it came into being at the Geneva Motor Show in 2009. And even though 2018 marks the ninth year of production, the wagon-esque MPV never cut the mustard as far as sales volume is concerned.

If you’re intent on buying one, the remaining stock is all there is to the Verso. For those who would rather spend money on an alternative model, Toyota has enough of them. Off the top of my mind, the Prius+, Auris Touring Sports, RAV4, and ProAce Verso are good enough as family haulers.

The end of the Verso got clear at the beginning of the year, after Toyota published the sales numbers for 2017. Deliveries for the nameplate plunged 46 percent last year, and thus, the automaker decided to review its European lineup.

In addition to the Verso, the European continent lost a number of MPVs in the past year or so, including the Opel Zafira. For the time being, the Renault Scenic is the best-selling MPV in Europe, followed by the Volkswagen Touran and Citroen C4 SpaceTourer.

Another reason why the Verso couldn’t cut it anymore is the lack of a hybrid powertrain option. You could say that Prius+ is to blame for this outcome, but then again, the Prius+ continues to make Toyota more money than the Verso considering how popular the five-door MPV is with taxi drivers.
