For those interested in the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Sedan, but can do with two less doors, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia now has that option for you in the form of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe. The car was officially introduced at the Sepang International Circuit earlier today, and is priced at RM773,888, RM75,000 more than its sedan sibling (on-the-road without insurance).
We’ll start with the headline figures – 510 hp at 5,500 to 6,250 rpm, and 700 Nm of torque at 1,750 to 6,250 rpm, which originates from the hand-made M177 4.0 litre biturbo V8 engine. All that power is sent to the rear wheels via an AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed sports automatic transmission.
The powertrain here allows for a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.9 seconds, and the coupe will continue to accelerate to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h. If that isn’t fast enough for you liking, tag on the optional AMG Driver’s Package, and you can push on to 290 km/h instead.
Of course, all that grunt is matched by a nifty three-stage adjustable AMG Ride Control sports suspension, as well as an electronic rear axle locking differential, the latter being an exclusive to the S model. Drivers will get to cycle through a variety of driving modes via the AMG Dynamic Select switch, which sets the car’s systems (suspension, steering, throttle, shift map) into track attack mode when ‘Race’ is selected (unique to the S). Alternatively, there’s ‘Comfort’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Sport+’ to choose from.
To set it apart from its tamer sibling, the regular C-Class Coupe, the C 63 S Coupe comes with the signature AMG makeover, starting with the AMG twin-blade front grille and a centre-mounted three-point star. There’s also a new front bumper sporting the familiar A-wing design we’re seen on the C 63 S Sedan and new E 63.
At the rear, there’s a new three-fin diffuser positioned between the trademark AMG quad exhaust setup, along with model-specific emblems. The sides remain pretty much status quo, save for some additional carbon-fibre trim along the lower edges, and the ‘V8 Biturbo’ wing badges.
Also fitted here is the AMG Night package, where items such as the A-wing trim, rear bumper trim strip, side mirror housings, shoulderline trim and window surrounds, are all finished in high-gloss black.
The C 63 S Coupe rides on 19-inch AMG nine-dual Y-spoke wheels finished in matte black with a high-sheen rim flange. It is wrapped with 255/35 sized tyres at the front, while the rears are 285/30 rubbers. Other wheel options are available as part of the Edition 1 package, detailed below.
Step inside the cabin, and you’ll be greeted by a familiar C-Class Coupe layout, with plenty of go-fast bits integrated within. The two-tone dashboard can be had with either red/black or white/black perforated Nappa leather, accompanied by carbon-fibre/aluminium and matte silver/aluminium trim. These items are all part of the AMG Performance Studio interior package.
The switchgear for the air-conditioning and infotainment system continue to retain their position on the centre stack, this time surrounded by plenty of carbon-fibre, with an ‘AMG’ emblem displayed on the stowage space cover. Similarly, the touchpad interface on the centre console gains a few new neighbours, specifically switches for the AMG Dynamic Select and other AMG-specific controls.
More AMG goodies can be seen on the multifunction display screen within the instrument cluster, which feature several a lap timer and other performance gauges. Not enough? Then look closely at the timepiece on the centre stack, an AMG-specific IWC design analogue clock.
To ensure you a comfortably held in place while on track, the Performance seats on the C 63 S Coupe are upholstered in Artico man-made leather/Dinamica microfibre with AMG badges on the backrests.
Much like the C 63 S Sedan, an Edition 1 version of the AMG coupe will also be available, priced at RM795,888 (RM72,000 more than the C 63 S Sedan Edition 1). For the RM22,000 premium, you’ll get some extra styling bits, beginning with two exterior design packages. The first features stripes rendered in graphite grey matte, set atop a variety of exterior paint finishes to choose from.
The other option is reminiscent of the company’s DTM racer, where the colour scheme is a combination of designo magno selenite grey matte paint with yellow film coating and yellow sport stripes. It also comes with black Performance five-twin-spoke forged wheels that are 19 inches in size at the front and 20 inches at the rear.
Both design options receive the AMG Aerodynamics package, tagging on a larger front spoiler, side sills, stall strips (rear bumper), rear diffuser and a small lip spoiler on the bootlid. Need more? Well, tag on the optional high-performance tyres and ceramic brakes.
Changes to the interior include AMG Performance seats upholstered in Nappa leather, with yellow contrast stitching, also seen on the door panels, armrests, steering wheel rim and beltlines. More yellow accents can be found on the instrument cluster, AMG-specific IWC clock and floor mats. Rounding up the list of new items are the Dinamica microfibre performance steering wheel and matte carbon trim on the centre console.
